Which is the best way to play Pokémon Go?

It’s a tricky question, but Pokémon Go, the massively popular augmented reality game for smartphones, tablets and computers, has been an incredibly popular phenomenon in its native countries, with millions of people downloading the game each day.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver Pokemon HeartGold (PC) and Pokemon SoulSilver (PS3) have been downloaded more than 11.6 million times in the US alone. 

Their respective releases were first announced in December 2017, but they weren’t released in North America until September 2017. 

HeartGold was initially available on the PS3 and later on the PC, with the former getting the much-anticipated SoulSilver in April 2018. 

It was also one of the first games to be ported to iOS devices, though the game was later released on Nintendo’s new iOS 8 platform. 

The Pokémon series has grown exponentially since its first title was released in 1997, with more than 2,000 different Pokémon games being released worldwide since the release of the original Game Boy in 1999. 


Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Darkness Pokémon Mystery Dungeon (PC, PS3) and Pokémon Mystery Quest (PS Vita) were both released in Japan in May 2018.

The two games are set in different worlds and contain multiple locations and characters to explore. 

Both were well received by players and fans alike, and both have since sold well over one million copies. 


Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 The Pokemon Black and White 2 series, developed by PlatinumGames, has spawned numerous spin-offs, with Pokémon Black 1 and Pokémon Black 3 released in 2014 and 2015 respectively. 

Black and White was released on the Nintendo 3DS in 2015, while Black 2 was released for the Wii U and 3DS this year. 

Although the first two games were well-received by players, both have recently been ported to Xbox One and PlayStation 4. 


Pokémon X and Pokémon Y Pokémon X and Y (PS4, PC) and X and X (Xbox One, PS4) were released in March 2018 and June 2018 respectively.

Both were hugely popular, with a whopping 25 million downloads in Japan alone.

They are both available on iOS and Android devices, with both also getting a PlayStation 4 port later in 2018.

Both are also the only Pokémon games that have sold over 1 million copies, meaning they are the highest-selling Pokémon titles on any platform ever. 


Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Pokémon Ultra Sun (PC/PS4) and Ultra Sun 2 (PS5) were launched in August 2018, respectively.

Both were highly acclaimed by fans, with nearly one million players on the PlayStation Plus platform in the United States. 

Ultra Sun was also the first Pokémon game to be released on consoles. 


Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire Pokémon Omega Ruby (PC and PS4/Xbox One) and Alpha Omega Sapphire (PSX) were first released in 2017 and 2018 respectively, respectively, and have since been ported by a variety of third-party developers.

Both are available on PS4 and Xbox One, with Omega Ruby being released on July 25, 2018, while Alpha Sapphire being released in November 2017.

The Pokémon games have grown exponentially in the past decade, with over 20 million copies being sold since the first game was released. 


Pokémon Sun and Moon Sun and Moon (PC-only) and Moon Adventures (PSP) were announced in 2016 and 2017 respectively, which are both being released for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox 360.

Both games were hugely successful and were downloaded over 25 million times, meaning that the first three games have surpassed the 2 million mark. 


Pokémon Battle Revolution Pokémon Battle Revolution (PC version) and Battle Revolution 2 (Xbox) were originally announced in 2017, with Battle Revolution 1 (also released on PS3, PS Vita and Xbox) being released last year and Battle Revolutions 2 (also on PS Vita) being later announced.

Both have been ported and updated over the years, with Nintendo’s latest release on Nintendo Switch being released back in November 2018.

Both the games are available in Japan, with Japanese releases of Battle Revolution 3, Battle Revolution 4 and Battle Reformations 2. 


Pokémon GO: Pokémon Go Gold Edition (PC + PS4, Xbox One) Pokémon GO Gold Edition is a collection of Pokémon GO games released for PC and PlayStation consoles in 2017.

 In a way, it’s the first console version of the games, since Pokémon GO has previously been available on PC and PS3 since its launch in 2017 as part of the Pokémon GO mobile app.

Players can now download Pokémon GO Gold edition for free from the Nintendo eShop, with it also coming bundled with Pokémon GO Lite for iOS and Pokémon GO Plus for Android devices.
