WASHINGTON (AP) The flower world is celebrating another record bloom in the U.S. This year, flowers from New England and the Carolinas have set a new record for blooms in one year.
The American Association of Flower Growers reported Sunday that the number of blooms for the entire year in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maryland reached an average of 1,895.
That’s up from 1,908 the year before.
The bloom record was reached by flowers from the Carolina, New York, New Jersey and New York states.
The bloom total is the highest ever recorded in one state, according to the association.
“I am so proud to have seen this bloom,” said Elizabeth L. Dutcher, president and chief executive officer of the association’s national organization, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
“We are so fortunate to have this unique region that has such beautiful flower landscapes.”
The bloom season began Oct. 3 in the Carolinian state of Massachusetts.
The flower count is a good indication of bloom success, said Dr. Amy M. Sotelo, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.
The association is working with state and local officials to create a statewide program to identify new blooms, she said.
